Removing the Fear Factor from Detecting Oral Cancer and Other Mucosal Conditions Alumni Speaker Series Friday, October 23, 2009 1:15pm-4:15pm (3 CE credits) New technologies are giving practitioners the ability to detect potentially malignant and other mucosal conditions at the earliest stages, enabling their patients to maintain a productive and enjoyable lifestyle. These early stage mucosal lesions are difficult to recognize under normal white light examination conditions and this course are designed to demystify oral mucosal examinations and enhance the clinician’s ability to discover oral cancer, potentially malignant, and other mucosal conditions at the earliest possible stages. This program will review the science, benefits, and utilization of these new sophisticated but simple to use screening modalities and will enhance the participants’ confidence and ability to deal with the screening, diagnosis, documentation, and patient management process. Benjamin ’78 is in private practice in rural upstate New York and is Visiting Professor at the SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and a Research Associate at the NYU College of Dentistry. He is an internationally recognized lecturer on Oral Cancer and Advanced Dental Technologies and has published more than 200 articles on dental technology in over a dozen publications and is presently a member of the editorial board of several prestigious peer reviewed dental journals. Dr. Benjamin was a participant in the World Health Organizations (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Oral Cancer and Precancer 2005 Working Group on “Potentially Malignant Oral Mucosal Lesions and Conditions Terminology; Classification; Diagnosis and Prognosis”. He is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) and the Scientific Program Chairman for the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) for 2007 and 2010. |
