Dental Ethics and Jurisprudence in New York State (Meets the NYS mandated dental jurisprudence and ethics course requirement) Alumni Speaker Series Wednesday, October 21, 2009 3:00pm-6:00pm (3 CE credits) $95 Dental Alumni Dues-Paid Members $125 Nonmembers The New York State Office of the Professions has mandated that, during the registration period beginning January 1, 2008, dentists who are required to complete continuing education must, on a one-time basis, complete a three-hour course in New York State jurisprudence and ethics. This course focuses primarily on case presentations of ethical dilemmas involving common grounds for ethical complaints and disciplinary actions. Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the practice of dentistry is imputed to all licensed practitioners and ignorance of the law or ethics is never a defense. Course Objectives
Recommended for…Dentists. Chester J. Gary, DDS ’78, JD is a dentist/attorney-at-law, admitted in New York and Florida, with a practice concentrated on issues relevant to healthcare providers. He is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Course Director of Practice and Risk Management, University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He serves as Editor of the Eighth District Dental Society Bulletin, reviewing editor of the New York State Dental Journal, Chair of the District Professional Liability Claims Committee, member of the Erie County Bar Association Health Care Committee, and adjunct faculty member at the Erie Community College Dental Hygiene School. Dr. Gary has published numerous articles and lectured extensively regarding dentistry and the law. |
