Intro to Restorative Procedures for the
Dental Team Member

FOCUS ON AMALGAM June 13, 2008
(FOCUS ON RESIN June 20)

Recent changes in New York State’s Education and Licensing laws have prompted us to offer this hands-on workshop, focusing on specific topic areas.

The day will begin with a brief review of tooth morphology, armamentarium used for restorative dentistry,  instrumentation and basic principles, dental materials  used in restorative dentistry,  proper occlusion and tooth relationships, and placing and finishing composite and amalgam restorations.

Clinical faculty will demonstrate procedures and you will practice with instruments on typodonts provided.

Course Objectives
At the completion of both parts of the program, you will have been shown and practiced:

1. Proper selection & application of clamps/rubber dams
2. How to place a matrix band properly
3. The importance of and how to select wedges
4. How to condense amalgam fillings and thier properties
5. How to carve an amalgam restoration
6. How to manipulate, finish & polish a resin restoration

With resin technology changing everyday, it is very important to understand the correct delivery/application to achieve successful bonding. This course is packed full of tips for dental assistants to help ensure proper bonding procedures, including a review of the different types of composites available.

Faculty discuss rationale for selective polishing, types of stains and deposits, and selection of appropriate polishing agents.

*Please plan to bring from your office:
eye protection, a resin finish/polishing kit and
a selection of matrix bands, as these items
are not provided by the School

This course is open to all dental professionals, however, information presented will be at the most basic level, primarily designed for those with little or no experience.

Please note: This workshop is not a comprehensive course of study for dental assistants seeking New York State Licensure. Only the topics listed are reviewed.
