Dental Pharmacotherapy Update

Drug therapy is a constantly changing environment in the medical field. In this era of evidence-based dentistry, clinician input along with current research helps to ensure successful patient outcomes.

This course will provide updates in the areas of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory agents and analgesics for medications commonly prescribed by dental professionals. Information presented will address patient-specific indications and participants are encouraged to share their expertise.

Current drug information resources will be discussed and handouts provided.

After attending the course, you should be able to:
  1. Discuss the current recommendations for antibiotic pre-medication of patients
  2. Recommend effective antibiotics for a variety of scenarios
  3. Discuss treatment options for different types of inflammatory conditions
  4. Choose analgesic therapy in consideration of risks and benefits
  5. List drug references used in dental practice and identify their strengths and weaknesses

General practitioners, specialists, hygienists,
dental assistants and front office staff can
all benefit from
this program.
