Position: Dental Hygienist
Introduction: One full-time dental hygienist is sought for a State
psychiatric center in Buffalo, NY in zip code 14213. Work schedule is 8 hours a
day, 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday, except holidays, per State schedule. Shift
is 8:00 a.m. -4:30 p.m., Pay is $33.00/hr.
Scope of Work: The dental hygienist works as part of
the dental delivery team. Personal (direct) supervision means that the dentist
is in the dental office or facility and personally authorizes the procedure,
and before the dismissal of the patient, personally examines the condition
after the treatment is completed.
The duties of the facility dental hygienist may include
the following:

Placing or removing rubber dam
·
Removing sutures.
·
Taking impressions for study casts (study casts
shall mean only study casts as will be used for purposes of diagnosis and
treatment planning by the dentist and for the purposes of patient education)
·
Placing or removing matrix bands
·
Applying a topical medication not related to complete
dental prophylaxis
·
Placing and removing periodontal dressings
·
Selecting and pre-fitting provisional crowns
·
Taking impressions for space maintainers,
orthodontic appliances and occlusal guards
·
Placing and removing temporary separating
devices
·
Bleaching
·
Procedures within the scope of a NYS licensed
certified dental assistant. Removing calcareous deposits, accretions and stains
including scaling and planning of exposed root surfaces indicated for a
complete dental prophylaxis
·
Applying topical agents indicated for a complete
dental prophylaxis
·
Removing excess cement from surfaces of the
teeth
·
Providing patient education
·
Placing and exposing X-ray films
·
Performing topical anti-cariogenic agent
applications, including but not limited to topical fluoride applications, and
performing topical anesthetic applications
·
Polishing teeth, including restorations
·
Taking medical history including the measuring
and recording of vital signs
·
Periodontal charting including pocket depths,
recessions, bone levels, tooth mobility, furcation involvement
·
Charting caries and periodontal conditions as an
aid to diagnosis by the dentist
·
Applying pit and fissure sealants
·
Applying desensitizing agents to the teeth
